Cindy Branham teaches Rider with only “One Rein”
Advanced understanding of how we change how the horse moves has become a real passion of mine. Making it simple enough for us all to understand can become difficult. So, as my understanding of this concept grows I have to look at my training techniques to help my students understand and be able to grow in their horsemanship also.
So, I realized that the biggest handicap we as riders do to ourselves is to over use our hands when riding, especially on a more advanced trained horse. So to help my students understand that how their balance and legs effect how the horse moves, I teach them by taking away one of their reins. This is an advanced lesson that not only helps the rider learn more about the horses movement, but also how to communicate to the horse better through the use of their seat and legs. This lesson also allows me as the teacher to really have incite into the sometimes hidden cues that the student is giving to the horse. It helps me to zone in on problem areas and rebuild the communication lines between horse and rider.
Do you ever feel like life needs taken by both reins and brought under your control? I know I do. But life is just like the horse, if we pull to much on one rein or the other we redirect the whole horse and create more confusion. With the horse, they naturally balance on their own, but we add our weight and movement and then un-balance us both. We have to come together in perfect balance to perform as one. The only way life will become balanced is if we let God have the reins and trust His direction.
